Phoenix, AZ, United States (NewsBahn) – Former heavyweight boxing great Ken Norton died Wednesday night in an Arizona hospital.
He was rehabbing from a stroke last year and was dealing with several other ailments as well.
Norton topped Muhammad Ali in 1973 in San Diego, despite suffering a broken jaw. He also had an epic battle with Larry Holmes in 1978.
Norton finished his career 42-7-1, with 33 knockouts and retired in 1981 after a first-round loss to Gerry Cooney at Madison Square Garden.
He then appeared in several movies.
His son Ken Norton Jr. is a coach with the Seattle Seahawks after playing in the NFL.
