Madrid, Spain (4E Sports) – Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a fresh five-year contract with Real Madrid that would make him the highest paid star in Spanish football.
According to reports, Ronaldo signed a contract with salary of 17 million euros or $22,621,900 per season, eclipsing the 13 million euros ($17,299,100) plus 3 million euros ($3,992,100) incentive being paid by Barcelona to Lionel Messi.
“I’m really happy here. I’ll be here five more years, and I just want to win trophies for this club. I appreciate that the fans like me a lot. I’m happy, I want to give my best on the pitch,” said Ronaldo.
“I will be honest with you — everyone knows I was in Manchester for six years, but Manchester is in the past. Now my club is Real Madrid. This is my home, my family is here and I’m really happy here,” he added.
Ronaldo has two years left in his previous deal and was regularly wooed by Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Ronaldo said he made up his mind to stay with Real Madrid at end of last season.
“It’s a great day for the club — we have achieved the dream of all Madridistas. Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid will remain forever,” said Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Portugal international Ronaldo scored for Madrid in their 2-2 draw with Villarreal Saturday, with debutant Gareth Bale having netted the first.
