Curwensville – The Curwensville Lady Tide volleyball team won their home opener on Tuesday night to even their record for the season at 1-1. They swept all three games of a tight match with Brookville 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.
Lady Tide Head Coach Sandy Bailor commented afterwards, “We battled in all three sets. Brookville is a scrappy team and if you don’t keep on your toes they make you pay. We had some trouble with serve-receive in all three sets, but the girls battled through it and were able to get Alaina (Stiles) some passes that she could handle to set up our offense; and when we did that Tierra (Shope) and Ciara (Strickland) had some great kills. Jazmin (Soult) came into the second and third set and served really well to bring us within striking distance to put those sets away. Jenna Neeper did a nice job for us in the Libero spot bringing up some nice digs. Senior Jordyn McFadden had the first kill of her career, which was a great thing to witness, as she is one of the hardest working players on the court. I was impressed with the way the girls were able to stay focused and finish the match with a win. We were down at one point in a set six or seven points and they battled. We have a lot of work to do at practice to get ready for Punxsutawney. We have to eliminate the mistakes we made tonight and play error free volleyball tomorrow evening.”
Stat Leaders: Tierra Shope – 11 kills, 13 service points. Ciara Strickland – 7 kills, 18 service points. Alaina Stlies – 13 service points, 20 assists. Logan Witherite – 12 service points. Melanie Milliron – 9 service points. Jazmin Soult – 10 service points. Shauna Guy – 4 service points, 3 kills.
The junior varsity upped their record to 2-0 with a 25-9, 25-20 sweep.
