CLEARFIELD – September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that students have the most import school supply of all – a free library card.
Resources at the Shaw Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement. They can stop in the library during regular business hours to check out a variety of print materials to support school assignments or to obtain recreational reading material.
Students can use their library cards from home, too. The library offers access to important educational resources, like the Power Library database. The online service contains a wide variety of digital resources to meet the needs of students from elementary through high school. Also, the Overdrive downloadable book collection is available to area students by visiting the online collections link on the library webpage. The digital collection can be accessed by visiting the library Web site at www.clearfield.org/shaw.
“Our library provides all types of students with the tools they need to succeed,” stated Paula Collins, library director. “We provide students with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun and resources that they can access from the library or from home – all with a free library card. It is for these reasons that a library card is most important school supply of all.”
For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit the Shaw Public Library. The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
