Steve Kopilchak, 94, of Tyrone and formerly of Madera died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born March 31, 1919 in Beccaria, a son of the late Pete and Eva (Waship) Kopilchak.
He worked as a coal miner and was a member of the Madera United Methodist Church and the UMWA Local 1520. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and watching wrestling.
He’s survived by his wife, Mary Fink Leonard Kopilchak of Tyrone. They were married Oct. 20, 2005 in Tyrone.
He’s survived by a son and daughter, John R. Kopilchak and his wife, Rachel of Canton, GA and Linda D. Lefort and her husband, William of Osceola Mills; two grandchildren, Steven L. Lefort and his wife, Jennifer of Boiling Springs and Nicole A. Lefort of Glasgow; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sabrina Lefort.
He is also survived by six step-children, Glenn Mock Jr. and his wife, Sonya; Karen Covel and her husband, James; Marjorie Yon and her husband, Randy; Debbie Serben and her husband, Raymond; William Mock; and Richard Mock; 11 step-grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria Fabian of Warren, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Kephart Kopilchak on Feb. 26,
2002. They married July 20, 1945. He was also preceded in death by an infant
son, Fredrick and nine siblings, Andy, Edward, John, James and Adrian Pastra, Mary Sihlanick, Helen Kulas, Emma Savry and Frances Michidick.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc. of Madera.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Madera United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Alexander Cemetery, Madera.
