Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Charlie Hunnam is yet to appear on the big screen for his newest lead role in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” but already he has expressed his feelings on his newest feat, especially his “tangible chemistry” with leading lady Dakota Johnson.
Hunnam told reporters during the sixth season premiere of FX series “Sons of Anarchy,” “As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us. It felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it.”
To prepare for and know more about the role, Hunnam read the book and “felt even more excited about the prospect of bringing [Christian Grey] to life.”
The 33-year-old actor, meanwhile, is not worried about the impact of his new highly sexual role on his relationship with jewelry designer Morgana McNelis. In fact, McNelis is said to have a part in his decision to do the film.
Hunnam said that McNelis has read and loved the books and that she “was really excited about the potential of the opportunity for me. If anything, I think it will make us closer.”
The hunky actor also expressed that he has no qualms of working on a racy film such as this. He said, “My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called ‘Queer as Folk.’ It was incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man. I mean I’m 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady.”
“Fifty Shades of Grey,” adapted from the novels written by E.L. James, is set to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
