DUBOIS — The Curwensville Lady Tide volleyball team lost a tough 5-set match on the road in DuBois on Monday night in their traditional season opener at the much bigger school and program.
The scores were 28-26, 11-25, 25-17, 20-25, 14-16.
Lady Tide Head Coach Sandy Bailor was upbeat after the loss, “ We were up for the challenge and we fell short. We played a great match and I couldn’t be any prouder of this team. In our first set we battled from the first serve to the last and won 28-26, the second set we seemed to let down, we had trouble passing the ball and we couldn’t get the offense running. The third set we won 25-17 when we got back on track with our passing and it gave our setter Alaina Stiles the opportunity to run the offense. In the fourth set it was a game of long volleys and again we came up short 20-25. And in the fifth set we were up 8-3 and DuBois battled back and we kept matching point to point and then we had some bad passes and ended up losing that set 14-16 and the match. A disappointing loss, but a loss I feel the girls will learn a lot from, we have nothing to be ashamed of – they played hard and they never gave up. Its been a few years since I have had a team that plays like a team whether they are a starter or a player that comes off the bench they all play a pivotal part on this team making it a team that is fun to coach.”
