Tulsa, OK, United States (4E Sports) – Tulsa Shock gave New York Liberty a 93-88 beating Sunday at the BOK Center to dent the latter’s playoff hopes.
Candice Wiggins scored a season-high 25 points and Riquana Williams scored 22 points and Courtney Paris added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Shock.
The Shock’s 14-2 run late in the first quarter and Williams contributing seven points gave them a 28-19 advantage.
The Liberty answered with a 17-7 spurt to open the second quarter and gain a 38-37 edge.
Wiggins had 20 of her 25 points in the first half, including six 3-pointers, as Tulsa hit 9 of 13 first-half tries from beyond the arc to claim a 52-48 lead at intermission.
The game was tied at 52-all with 6:18 remaining in the third when the Shock completed an 18-9 run to lead 70-61 at the end of the third.
A rare four-point play by Jennifer Lacy gave the Shock its biggest lead of the game at 74-61 with over eight minutes remaining.
The Liberty rallied to tie the game at 86 with a 3-pointed by Cappie Pondexter , making her the 12th player in WNBA history to eclipse 5,000 career points.
Paris’ three-point play with 28.9 seconds left gave the Shock an 89-86 lead before Pondexter scored to make it a one-point game with 22.1 seconds remaining.
Free throws by Williams and Skylar Diggins settled the tilt.
Pondexter finished with 20 points for the Liberty.
The Shock (10-20) is already out of the playoff picture but they are relishing the role of a spoiler pulling the Liberty behind fourth-place Indiana by three games with four games to play.
“We know our playoff hopes are over. Now we want to crush other people’s dreams,” said Williams.
