Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – The Los Angeles Dodgers announced it exercised “managers’s discretion” in pulling Yasiel Puig out in favor of Skip Schumaker in the fifth inning against the Chicago Cubs Wedesday at Dodgers Stadium.
Puig retreated to the clubhouse but returned to the bench a few minutes later.
Schumaker later hit an RBI single in the fifth in a 4-0 win
The team announced there was no injury to the rookie star, raising speculation that the removal was for disciplinary reasons.
Puig didn’t slide into second base to try to break up a double play in the first inning and visibly reacted after striking out in the third.
Last week in Miami, Puig violated a team rule by showing up late to the clubhouse, prompting a fine from manager Don Mattingly.
Puig was also benched for one game, which Mattingly said was not related to the outfielder’s late arrival.
