New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Reigning Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli said she doesn’t regret her decision to hang up her racket earlier this month.
“I’m not regretting anything because I have been giving 100 percent, trying my best every single day,” the 28-year-old Bartoli said. “I have absolutely no regrets at all.”
“I really haven’t had any doubt about it and had a second thought about it at all. I’m enjoying so many opportunities I didn’t have time for as a tennis player,” she added.
However, Bartoli is keeping the door open for a comeback as she did not formally request the WTA to remove her ranking points.
“You never know what is going to happen. I am still in the rankings,” Bartoli said. “It’s pretty hard to say I will never come back.”
For now, Bartoli will give her body some rest from tennis before making a decision whether to return to competition or retire for good.
“It will probably come from me, my deep desire to come back or not,” she said. “It’s hard for someone outside to understand. I’ve been playing tennis every day since I was six years old and I’ve hit like two million balls.”
“Some time to rest and relax will be good for me,” she added.
Bartoli surprised everyone when she announced her retirement after losing to Romania’s Simona Halep in the second round at Cincinnati.
Now, Bartoli is focused on her new job as television commentator for the US Open.
“I will never criticize,” she said. “I know how hard it is out there. I know all the emotions they go through at a Grand Slam.”
