Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – NFL scouts watching football practice of Ohio State Buckeyes at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center who wore blue of their rival Michigan Wolverines were told to change their shirts.
Coach Urban Meyer imposed that rule for fans, media members, or even NFL scouts to observe.
Staffers informed the scouts of Meyer’s rule and some Buckeyes players even yelled at the scouts. The school then gave the scouts Ohio State shirts to wear while watching practice.
Other NFL scouts see the incident as “embarrassing” and something that could have been avoided.
“It could have been handled much better, and if that (blue-shirt) rule is going to be enforced, they could let us know,” said a scout.
Meyer’s policy has been observed for quite a while now, as Austin Murphy of Sports Illustrated reported in April of 2012 that a similar action was implemented against a reporter in a dark blue button-down.
According to Murphy, when the reporter smiled at his request, Meyer quipped, “He thinks I’m kidding.”
