Indianapolis, IN, United States (4E Sports) – Andrew Luck tossed for 164 yards and two touchdowns to guide the Indianapolis Colts to a 27-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Saturday’s preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Luck hit nine of his first 10 passes and finished 16-for-24 with an interception while Larry Asante returned an interception for a 48-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Colts, who improved to 2-1.
Reggie Wayne led the receiving corps with 78 yards on seven catches while Stanley Havili and T.Y. Hilton caught Luck’s scoring passes from three and eight yards, respectively.
Brandon Weeden, who was selected as starter in the regular season, went 12-for-25 for 105 yards while backup Jason Campbell finished with 112 yards on 8-for-14 passing as the Browns (2-1) suffered their first preseason loss.
In the first period, Luck led the Colts to a 10-play, 46-yard drive that Adam Vinatieri capped with a 32-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead.
In the second, Luck engineered an eight-play, 66-yard drive that he ended with a short touchdown heave to Havili as the Colts took a 10-0 lead at the break.
Luck made it 17-0 in the third period when he found Hilton for an eight-yard scoring pass with 11:17 on the clock.
Then, Weeden sparked an 11-play, 48-yard drive but was stalled at the Colts’ 32-yard line, forcing the Browns to settle for a 50-yard field goal from Shayne Graham.
Matt Hasselbeck took over for Luck and helped the Colts pad their lead to 20-3 when he led a 51-yard drive that ended with a 25-yard field goal from Vinatieri.
In the fourth, Graham made it 20-6 with a 44-yard field goal but Asante intercepted a Brian Hoyer pass and returned it 48 yards for a score.
