Oakland, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki will return to the Oakland A’s after he was traded by the Washington Nationals for pitching prospect Dakota Bacus.
Suzuki, who played his first 5 ½ seasons of his career with Oakland, will be a welcome addition as John Jaso is on the disabled list and Derek Norris broke his left big toe Tuesday, leaving rookie Stephen Vogt as the only healthy catcher on the team.
In 78 games this season, Suzuki has hit .223 with a .284 on-base percentage while slugging .311. He has three homers and 25 RBIs.
After trading Suzuki, the Nationals only have Wilson Ramos as the only catcher on their active roster. Backup catcher Jhonatan Solano has played 16 games this season but he’s currently at Triple-A Syracuse.
Bacus was drafted by Oakland in the ninth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He was 9-5 with a 3.56 ERA for Class A Beloit this year. Bacus will report to Class A Hagerstown.
