Cologne, Germany (4E) – Sony rubbed more salt into Microsoft’s wounds with a huge PlayStation 4 showcase at the Gamescom video game convention in Germany. It was a difficult past few weeks for Microsoft as it announced a delay in the launch of the Xbox One game console in eight European countries. Microsoft was also forced to reconsider some of the Xbox One features that were unpopular with gamers such as required Internet connectivity to play single player games and the need to have the Kinect sensor attached at all times.
“While others have shifted their message and changed their story, we were consistent in maintaining policies and a model that is fair and in tune with consumer desires. We set out to build the most powerful gaming platform with a deeply held, consistent focus on you, the gamer,” said Andrew House, President and CEO of the Sony Computer Entertainment group, according to Bloomberg News.
Sony took full advantage at the convention by presenting impressive new game trailers and Internet plans for faster PlayStation 4 connectivity. It was the perfect opportunity for Sony to push forward and ahead of Microsoft in the video game console race.
The PlayStation 4 will be available in the United States on November 15 and in Europe on November 29 — a total of 32 countries by the end of the year. The Xbox One will launch in only 13 countries by the end of the year.
