Cincinnati, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Andy Dalton tossed for 115 yards and a touchdown while rookie running back Giovani Bernard rushed for 37 yards and a score to carry the Cincinnati Bengals to a 27-19 win over the Tennessee Titans in Saturday’s preseason contest at Paul Brown Stadium.
Dalton completed 9-of-14 passes, Bernard ended his stint with seven carries while Dan Herron rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on nine carries as the Bengals remained undefeated in two preseason games.
“I think we were a little bit hungry tonight,” Dalton said. “After last week, we wanted to put points on the board with the ‘ones’ in there. So we go out of this game feeling a little better than last week.”
“The positive that sticks out with me is the offense. We made plays. We converted some third downs. We ran and passed well at times,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, whose offense recorded 429 total yards.
Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Titans (0-2) offense with a 9-for-13 performance for 139 yards and two touchdown passes to Michael Preston and Brandon Barden.
Jackie Battle rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries, Damian Williams caught four passes for 65 yards while Preston finished with 59 yards on three catches.
In the second period, Dalton hit Mohamed Sanu with a two-yard touchdown pass while Mike Nugent buried a 38-yard field goal to give the Bengals a 17-3 cushion at the break.
In the fourth, Herron put the Titans ahead, 24-12, with a 40-yard scoring run but Fitzpatrick cut it to 24-19 with 11:24 left when he hit Preston with a 46-yard touchdown heave. Nugent then sealed the win with a 26-yard field goal.
