CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Fire Chief Todd Kling is happy to have the fire company’s 1997 pumper #1 back from Keystone Fire Apparatus Inc. of McKee’s Rocks after more than seven months.
CLEARFIELD – State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) is inviting residents of the 74th Legislative District to his second town hall meeting of the summer. The event will be held Aug. 19, from 6 p.m. -7:30 p.m., at the Curwensville Community Center, 11 Stadium Dr., Curwensville.
WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – An inmate has died after an aggravated assault incident at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale, according to the state police at Clearfield.
CLEARFIELD – Ronnie Clinton Bass, 20, of Clearfield is facing charges for rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age.
At 12:46 a.m., Clearfield Borough police were dispatched for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival police found Bass had allegedly been observed assaulting a 4-year-old child. When questioned by police, Bass admitted to the offenses.
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Swimming Pool Association has awarded contracts for the renovation of the Clearfield Community Swimming Pool, and construction is set to start after Labor Day.

CLEARFIELD – A 19-year-old Houtzdale man, Richard Allen Demko Jr., who has been accused of drug activity at an area motel, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Demko is facing seven counts each of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not registered; and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. Demko’s charges stem from the reported drug activity on July 9 in Room 221 at the Knights Inn.
ALTOONA – On Tuesday the first robotic-assisted surgical cases were performed at UPMC Altoona.
The cases were performed by Matthew Newlin, M.D., general surgeon and medical director of Robotic Surgery at the hospital. Newlin said the procedures were gall bladder removal surgeries called “robotic-assisted laparoscopic cholecystectomy.”
DUBOIS – The DuBois Continuum of Care Community Inc. (DCCCI) and the state Department of Public Welfare (DPW) has reached an agreement in relation to the DCCCI’s operation of the independent living apartments, Village View.
“An agreement between DCCCI (Village View) and the DPW has been reached and is acceptable to both parties,” wrote Debra L. Harris, Village View manager in an e-mail correspondence this morning.
CLEARFIELD – After a brief executive session, Clearfield Borough Council re-adjourned and approved the hire of Steve Russo and Jake Rhymestine as part-time borough police officers.
