Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Right-hander Adam Plutko from UCLA, an 11th round selection, was the Cleveland Indians’ ninth and final signing before Friday’s 5 p.m. deadline to sign drafted players.
The Indians had $470,800 left just before Friday’s deadline, which they hoped to use to sign No. 10 pick Ross Kivett from Kansas State and Plutko.
Kivett, whose slotting bonus was $130,100, did not sign and will return to Kansas State.
Plutko was inked for $300,000 ($200,000 of which counts against the bonus pool).
The Indians were allotted $6,188,800 million to sign their top 10 picks, which covers any player drafted after the 10th round that gets more than $100,000.
The Indians have earlier signed (with slottting bonus in parenthesis): No. 1 Clint Frazier $3.5 million ($3.787 million); No.3 Dace Kime $525,000 ($692,200); No.4 Kyle Crockett $463,600 ($463,600); No.5 Sean Brady $800,000 ($347,100); No.6 Casey Shane $150,000 ($259,900); No.7 Kenny Mathews $150,000 ($194,800); No.8 Trevor Frank $10,000 ($158,300); and No.9 Thomas Pannone $120,000 ($147,800).
The Indians lost their second-round pick as compensation for signing free agent Nick Swisher.
