Central Florida inks basketball coach Donnie Jones through 2018

Orlando, FL, United States (4E Sports) – The University of Central Florida has signed coach Donnie Jones to a five-year contract extension through 2018, according to athletic director Todd Stansbury.

Jones led a depleted UCF Knights basketball roster to 20-11 record and a third-place finish in Conference USA last season.

He lost three key players–Marcus Jordan, C.J. Reed and Josh Crittle–to NCAA sanctions after school officials were reportedly found guilty of involvement with runners for sports agents and making cash payments to recruits in both basketball and football prograams.

Jones has led UCF to three consecutive season with 20 wins.

The deal highlights a commitment between UCF’s second-year athletic director Todd Stansbury and his fourth-year men’s basketball coach, who waas hired under a previous athletic director athletic director Keith Tribble .

The Knights are heading to the new American Athletic Conference next season.
