Japan’s defense minister visits Guam

Guam, United States (4E) – Japan Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera visited Guam and said that it needs the territory’s help in reducing military presence in Okinawa.

Onodera’s daylong Guam tri included a 20-minute meeting with Gov. Eddie Calvo and visits to Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam.

Meanwhile. U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin said Friday he is supporting the existing plan to relocate a U.S. Marine base within Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture, which has been strongly opposed by local residents.
