Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Anton Forsberg, its sixth pick and the 188th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract.
This was announced by General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen, who did not divulge terms of the contract in accordance with club policy.
The 6-2, 176-pound Forsberg appeared in 33 games with Sodertalje of Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan in 2012-13, earning 24 victories while finishing second in the league with a 2.04 goals-against-average and .933 save percentage. He also played made 14 games with MODO of the Swedish Elite League in 2011-12, recording a 3.15 GAA in addition to a .897 SV%.
A native of Harnosand, Sweden, Forsberg represented his country at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships in Alberta, Canada, helping Sweden earn the second gold medal. He recorded a 0.99 GAA and .933 SV% in two tournament appearances.
Forsberg appeared in 54 games with MODO’s junior club from 2009-11, posting a 3.21 GAA and .895 SV% while recording four shutouts.
