Louisville, KY, United States (NewsBahn) – Orb roared to a Kentucky Derby win Saturday, climbing from as far back as 15th to capture the win of the famous race.
A 6-1 co-favorite to win, Orb helped Hall of Famer trainer Shug McGaughey to his first Kentucky Derby win.
Orb paid $12.80 to win and took home over half of the nearly $2.2 million purse.
Joel Rosario rode Orb to the win at the 139th running of the event, which had a sloppy track due to heavy pre-race rains.
Golden Soul finished second, followed by Revolutionary in third. Normandy Invasion, which looked poised to take over the race midway through, sputtered to fourth.
