Golden Tide Play Long Ball In Defeating Moshannon Valley 11-2

AMESVILLE – Smacking three home runs, the Curwensville Golden Tide broke a four-game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Moshannon Valley, 11-2, on the Black Knights’ home turf.

With the win the Golden Tide improve to 1-1 in the Moshannon Valley League and 3-9 overall for 2013.

Brett Gardner went the distance on the mound for the Tide, giving up two unearned runs on just  four hits, while striking out 10 Black Knights as the junior pushed his record to 2-3 on the season.

After a scoreless first two innings, the Golden Tide scored three times in the top half of the third, highlighted by a Tanner Elensky two-run homer to left field.

Moshannon Valley answered in the bottom half of the third with a run but the Tide weren’t done with the long ball.

With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Gardner launched a two-run, two out homer, also to left field, as Curwensville added four tallies to lead 7-1 after four.

The Golden Tide would put another four spot on the board in the top of the seventh with Alex Olson stroking a lead off solo homer, to, you guessed it, left field.

Gardner and Jason Bloom each had four hits on the afternoon to pace the Tide with Curt Bloom adding two of his own.

Kent Stewart had two hits to lead Moshannon Valley.

Curwensville head coach Denny Johns said afterwards, “Brett (Gardner) certainly had a big day for us with the complete game win, plus he and Jason Bloom had four hits apiece.  And it was sure nice to play with a lead for a change.”

The Golden Tide hit the road again on Thursday, traveling to Kane to play the Wolves.  Game time is 4:15 pm.

Curwensville defeated Kane in Curwensville earlier this season, 11-1.
