Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks after he suffered a broken left elbow against the Texas Rangers Sunday.

The team announced Tuesday that it placed Weaver on the 15-day disabled list due to a left non-displaced radial head fracture.

“It’s pretty painful,” Weaver told reporters after leaving Sunday’s start with what the team initially called a strained left elbow. “It feels like a really bad jam. I definitely hyperextended it or something.”

The 30-year-old Weaver hurt himself when he landed awkwardly while ducking a line drive from Mitch Moreland.

Before he was pulled out, Weaver had thrown 98 pitches, allowing five runs in five innings as his fastball velocity eerily dropped close to the mid-80s.

Last year, Weaver missed three weeks with a lower back strain.

The Angels could use either Garrett Richards or Jerome Williams in their rotation as Weaver’s replacement.

Right-handed reliever Dane De La Rosa was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake, giving the bullpen an extra arm.
