CLEARFIELD – At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors advised Mike Boal of Novey Recycling that they are still looking into amending its ordinance to allow scrap piles higher than eight feet. Boal has requested for the limit to be increased to 45 feet.
Boal asked the supervisors if they had received his attorney’s letter regarding the status of the decision. Supervisor Glenn Johnston said, “We are still trying to look at this thing and to see what is fair for the community.” Johnston urged Boal to be patient.
Supervisor Ed Brown added, “There is more than just your site to consider. When you set precedent, you set it for all the areas with this type of activity.” Brown discouraged the supervisors from making any decision without legal input from Solicitor James Naddeo. Naddeo was not present at the meeting.
So far as Brown’s concerns regarding precedent, Boal said when West Mifflin prepared a similar ordinance change, they barred certain, existing sites from benefiting from it. Lawhead told Boal that Code Enforcement Officer Agatha Lauder-English had information; however, she was not at the meeting.
When asked about the current height of his scrap piles, Boal said they were still above 30 feet.
The supervisors announced they would be meeting next week with Naddeo to further discuss the requested ordinance amendment.
