Miami, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Novak Djokovic cruised to an easy victory Friday while Juan Martin Del Potro made an early exit at the 2013 Miami Masters at Key Biscayne.
Djokovic, who reached the semifinals of last week’s BNP Paribas Masters was in his element throughout the match as he fired sharp forehands and menacing serves to completely dominate Lukas Rosol, who has topped big name superstars.
Rosol pulled off a shocker over Nadal in the second round of last year’s Wimbledon Open. It also marked the last match for the Spaniard before he underwent a grueling seven-month knee rehab.
But it was not the case Friday as Djokovic simply showed who was the better player. The Serb will next take on Indian Somdev Devvarman in the third round.
Meanwhile, Del Potro was knocked out of the tournament following a 7-6,6-1 loss to Germany’s Tobias Kamke in the second round.
After reaching the finals of the BNP Paribas Masters last week, Del Potro seemed too fatigued as Kamke capitalized on the hapless performance by the former US Open champion.
Kamke will next face Jurgen Melzer of Austria in the third round of what appears to be a wide-open tourney with Del Potro eliminated and Nadal and Roger Federer taking a breather before the clay season.
