Toronto, ON, Canada (4E Sports) – Toronto Raptors forward Andrea Bargnani will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering an elbow injury, the team confirmed Wednesday.
Bargnani, the former first overall pick, has been dealt a myriad of injuries this offseason but the latest shut him down for the campaign.
The Italian gunslinger sustained a sprained right elbow in the first quarter of the Raptors’ 118-116 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers last Friday at Staples Center.
Doctors said Bargnani’s injury was not related to a ligament problem which forced him to sit out 25 games early this season.
The 27-year-old power forward averaged 12.7 points and 3.7 rebounds and has been a subject of trade rumors throughout the 2012-2013 campaign.
The Raptors recently suffered their sixth loss in seven games and 40th overall this season after bowing out to the Boston Celtics 112-88 Thursday at the TD Garden.
Celtics forward Jeff Green scored 20 points to lead all scorers while Rudy Gay tallied 19 for the hapless Raptors.
