Phoenix, AZ, United States (4E Sports) – Los Angeles Dodgers’ Zack Greinke has inflammation in his right elbow will not throw for several days.
The Dodgers said the 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner has received an injection of platelet-rich plasma and anti-inflammatory medication. He will resume a “progressive throwing program” after two to three days.
An MRI examination last week showed no structural damage to the ligaments or tendons in the elbow.
After Grienke complained of renewed irritation in the elbow Sunday, the Dodgers sent him to Los Angeles on Monday for examination by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The Dodgers and their medical staff did not order a new MRI test.
Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu replaced Greinke as Monday’s starter.
The Dodgers signed Greinke last winter for $147 million, the largest contract for a right-handed pitcher in major league history.
