SHARON — Sophomore 106-pounder Sam Bressler, the Curwensville Area High School’s last hope for a medal at the 2013 PIAA Northwest Region Class AA Wrestling Tournament, was eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday morning at Sharon High School.
Bressler (21-12) was pinned in 56 seconds by Greenville sophomore Jase Paxton (32-12), a Section 1 champ who placed fifth in the District 10 tourney.
Bressler’s 0-2 finish mirrored that of two other Golden Tide underclassmen, sophomore 126-pounder Jake Lancaster and junior 145-pounder Trey McKenzie.
None could carry over the success generated in the District 9 Tournament a week earlier.
Lancaster had climbed to the top of the winner’s stand, while Bressler earned a bronze medal and McKenzie placed fourth.
District 9 had 22 semifinalists and 22 wrestlers still alive in the consolations after Bressler’s loss.
