Santa Cruz, CA, United States (4E) – A man suspected of fatally shooting two police officers from Santa Cruz, California has been killed Tuesday.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said Detective Elizabeth Butler and Sgt. Loren Baker arrived at the home of Jeremy Goulet around 3:30 p.m. to investigate a sexual assault complaint when gunshots erupted, killing both officers.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff Phil Wowak said when other police officers responded, the suspect had already fled, leading authorities to a chase. An exchange of gunfire followed that caused the death of Goulet.

Baker was a 28-year-veteran of the department, who left behind a wife, two daughters and a son while Butler, who leaves behind two young boys, was with the department for 10 years.

Investigation regarding the incident is ongoing.
