Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Justin Masterson will be the starting pitcher for the Cleveland Indians’ opening day clash with the Toronto Blue Jays on April 2, manager Terry Francona announced Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Masterson gets his second career start in an opening day game. Last year, Masterson struck out 10 batters over eight innings in a 7-4 loss to the Jays in 16 innings. He went 11-15 with a 4.93 ERA and 159 strikeouts in 2012.
Meanwhile, Francona is not yet sure whether former ace Ubaldo Jimenez will be the team’s No.2 starter. Jimenez, traded to Cleveland from Colorado Rockies in 2011, hasn’t convinced Francona yet that’s he’s worthy to be the No.2 man in the Tribe rotation.
“Those things will fall into place,” said Francona of Ubaldo’s chances of starting for Indians home opener against the New York Yankees on April 8.
