Silver Linings Playbook rake wins at 2013 Independent Spirit Awards

Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – David O Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook” could not be stopped from raking wins at various awards nights and on Saturday, the celebrated film has gathered three wins at the 28th Independent Spirit Awards held on a beach in Santa Monica, California.
“Silver Linings” bagged the Best Feature award; Jennifer Lawrence won Best Female Lead; and David O. Russell won Best Director and Best Screenplay.
Upon accepting the award, Russell said, “The last time I held one of these in my hands was 19 years ago for best first feature. My son was 1 year old, and he grew up to be a man who taught me about a lot of things. He gave me this movie, so I want to thank him.” Russell’s son has bipolar disorder, similar to what Bradley Cooper’s role had in the movie.
Meanwhile, other winners include “The Sessions” for Best Supporting Female and Best Male Lead), “The Perks of Being A Wallflower” for Best First Feature, “Safety Not Guaranteed” for Best First Screenplay, and “Beasts of the Southern Wild” for Best Cinematography.
“Magic Mike” won Best Supporting Male, “Middle of Nowhere” won the John Cassavetes Award, “Amour” won Best International Film and “The Invisible War” won Best Documentary. Cinematographer Harris Savides received a posthumous award.
