Daytona, FL, United States (4E Sports) – The NASCAR Race at Daytona had a chaotic ending Saturday when a multi-car crash took place, injuring nearly 30 spectators in the stands.

Jostling for position in the final turn of the race, cars reportedly got tangled up and it resulted to a nasty domino effect. Driver Kyle Larson’s car shredded into pieces with some of its debris were sent flying into the stands, including a tire that jumped the fence.

Reigning Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski was also involved in the accident while former champ Tony Stewart maneuvered his way out of trouble and eventually took the victory before Sunday’s big race: the Daytona 500.

Medical personnel checked the nine drivers involved in the car crash and released them immediately with no major injuries reported. Meanwhile, the injured fans were already taken to Halifax Medical Center and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

One fan reportedly underwent surgery for an undisclosed injury, said to be life-threatening. A teenaged boy is said to be in critical condition but is expected to survive.

“I’m just hoping everyone is OK,” Keselowski told CNN on Saturday. “As drivers, we assume the risk. But fans do not.”
