Basketball coach’s half-court heave secures student’s university tuition
Winnipeg, MB, Canada (4E Sports) – Brandon University head basketball coach Gil Cheung helped a student secure a semester’s worth of tuition fee when he buried a half-court heave during a Bobcats’ game.
The small school, 135 miles west of Winnipeg in Manitoba, helps students offset their educational expenses through a halftime, half-court shot by any member of Bobcats, Brandon sports information director Matt Packwood told Yahoo! Sports.
When he was selected, Mason Kaluzniak picked Cheung as his shooter and the coach immediately obliged.
“Then he picks Coach Cheung,” Packwood said. “I started laughing. Gil was a shooter when he played 10 years ago, but he had the whole team to pick from. Gil walks out, takes off the suit jacket, says ‘game time’ and makes it.”
Then, Cheung did not disappoint the student as he buried the shot from his belt line. According to Cheung, the toughest part was making the shot with a suit on.
“Big thanks to bobcat head coach @Coach_Cheung_BU who hit a half court shot to win me my tuition!” Kaluzniak tweeted after the game.
