Madison, WI, United States (4E Sports) – Jared Berggren and Ben Brust tallied 15 points each as No. 20 Wisconsin handed No. 13 Ohio State its worst loss of the season, 71-49, Sunday at Kohl Center.
Sam Dekker scored 13 points off the bench while Traevon Jackson added 10 for the Badgers, who limited the Buckeyes to their lowest output this season.
The Badgers also inflicted the Buckeyes their last loss by 22 points or more in December 21, 2009 via a 65-43 victory.
The win kept the Badgers (18-8) in a tie for third with No. 4 Michigan in the Big Ten Conference with identical 9-4 record with their fourth win in last five games.
Deshaun Thomas scored 18 points to reach 500 points for the second consecutive year for the Buckeyes (18-7, -5 Big Ten), who dropped to third in the Big Ten after losing three of their last four outings.
Thomas, who earned 619 points during his sophomore campaign, has moved to No. 24 on the all-time scoring list at Ohio State with 1,400 total points. He needs eight points to pass Larry Bolden for 23rd all-time.
Sam Thompson scored 10 for the Buckeyes, who were held to a season-low 22 points in the first half after shooting just 10-for-31 for a 32.3 percent clip.
Brust buried three triples during the Badgers’ 18-run that broke a 6-all deadlock and gave them a commanding 24-6 lead, with 9:24 left in the opening half.
During the span, Ohio State missed all of their 14 attempts before Thomas broke the shooting slump and the run with a jumper.
