Third victim dies in Guam knife attack

Guam, United States (4E) – Japanese media have flocked to Guam after the stabbing rampage as a third tourist died from injuries Thursday.

The third fatality was a Japanese tourist according to local newspaper Pacific Daily News.

The third fatality was identified as 51-year-old Hitoshi Yakota,

Guam is a known tourist destination for Japanese. To the Japanese it is a safe place.

According to the report, in 2012 more than 900,000 tourists from Japan visited Guam, making up more than 71 percent of overall visitor arrivals in 2012.

Gov. Eddie Calvo stated in the report the incident has drawn worldwide attention to Guam.

Included in the injured were 8 months old and 3 years old, their mother Rie Sugiyama, was one of the three deaths resulting the knife attack.

The elderly woman who died was identified as Kazuko Uehara, she was Sugiyama’s grandmother.

21-year-old Chad Ryan De Soto, a former student of John F. Kennedy High School, was arrested and charged.

His bail was raised to $3million after a third murder charge was added.
