Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Gennifer Brandon scored 16 points while Layshia Clarendon and Britanny Boyd added 14 as the California Golden Bears handled the UCLA Bruins 79-51 Friday at Pauley Pavilion.
The Golden Bears salvaged a big victory on the road after igniting a fast start to hand the Bruins their first home loss in Pac-12 regular-season.
By playing tough defense and executing their plays well, the Lady Bears dominated the Bruins in the first 20 minutes of play and ended the first half with a commanding 39-21 cushion.
Trying to avoid a complete embarrassment in front of the home crowd, the Bruins tried to make a serious run in the second half but the Golden Bears had the momentum to finish them off.
Atonye Nyingifa scored a game-high 20 points while Alyssia Brewer recorded 9 points and 7 rebounds for UCLA, who slipped to 19-5 (10-3 in Pac-12).
The Bears extended their winning streak to 10 games and more importantly improved their record to 22-2 (12-1 in Pac-12).
