Clippers give Lakers beating before All-Star break
Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and Chauncey Billups combined for 67 points and the Los Angeles Clippers trounced the Los Angeles Lakers, 125-101, Thursday at Staples Center.
The Clippers capped their campaign before the All-Star break with a victory over their intra-city rival, relying on a fast start and a furious run in the second half.
Paul finished with 24 points and 13 assists while Blake Griffin added 22 points and 10 rebounds in their latest face-off with Kobe Bryant and company. However, Billups played the x-factor as he finished with 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting.
The Clippers started like a house on fire, building a 15-0 lead just four minutes spared in the game. But the Lakers kept their chin up and began to make their move, narrowing the deficit down to three, 47-44, at 3:44 minute mark of the second period.
Unfortunately for the purple-and-gold, the Clippers unleashed an 18-8 run in the waning minutes of the second period to take a 64-52 cushion at the break.
The second half was all about the Clippers. Griffin, Paul, Billups and their supporting casts were simply firing from all cylinders as they toyed the Lakers on their home floor.
Kobe Bryant finished with 20 points and 11 dimes and Dwight Howard added 18 points and 8 rebounds for the Lakers, who fell four games below .500 at 25-29.
The Clippers solidified their record before All-Star break at 39-17 and are on track of booking a home-court advantage in the postseason.
