HUNTINGDON – The Clearfield Bison boys basketball team simply ran out of gas in the second half on Thursday night, resulting in a 62-41 loss to Huntingdon on the home court of the Bearcats.

As Clearfield Head Coach Forrest Campman said after the game, “We just ran out of gas in the second half, and probably due to the fact that we played three games in four nights.”

The Bison played the Bearcats as close as possible in the first 16 minutes and actually had a 22-20 lead late in the second quarter before Huntingdon scored the last seven points to lead at the break, 27-22.

Huntingdon then came out from intermission to score the first 10 points of the second half and started to pull away from the visiting Bison. The fast start for the Bearcats gave them a 17-0 run from the end of the second frame into the third.

Huntingdon’s Devon Claar led all scorers with 29 points, 20 in the first two quarters.  Nat Gearhart also hit for double figures for the Bearcats with 12.

For Clearfield, it was junior Christian Lezzer dumping in 13 points and sophomore Erik Sellers adding 10 tallies.

Campman also added, “We were definitely undersized tonight, but I thought the kids gave a great effort in spite of that.  I was happy to see the younger guys get some minutes, and it was nice to see Erik (Sellers), who is a sophomore, score 10 points for us.”

Back in December the Bearcats also prevailed on the Bison home floor, 61-55.

Huntingdon also won the junior varsity contest with a win over the Bison, 38-22.  Derek Hryn lead Clearfield with points.

Clearfield, now 6-15, plays its final game of the season at home Friday night, against visiting Penns Valley, a team that knocked off the Bison 44-23 earlier in the season.
