Barcelona, Spain (4E Sports) – Striker David Villa will miss Barcelona’s La Liga game against Granada Saturday after he was readmitted to hospital for observation due to further abdominal pain, the team has confirmed.
Villa recently underwent a procedure to remove a kidney stone and was scheduled to return to practice Wednesday after leaving hospital.
However, the player did not participate in practice session after reportedly feeling further pain in the affected area.
“The club’s medical services have explained that Villa has been readmitted to the Hospital of Barcelona due to the persistence of the pain caused by the renal colic he is suffering, to keep him under observation,” the team’s statement said.
“He has been ruled out of Saturday’s league game against Granada. Villa was taken into hospital on Monday for the same condition, but after receiving treatment he was sent home on Tuesday,” the statement added.
The 31-year-old Villa played his second full 90 minutes for Barca in La Liga this season and scored in the 6-1 rout of Getafe Sunday.
Aside from missing the game against Granada, the striker could also be sidelined when his plays in the Champions League’s last-16 first leg in Milan next Wednesday.
