Washington, United States (4E) – Former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Sunday called for a special court to review drone strikes, stressing on the need to check against the power of the president to execute Americans.
Former CIA director, Gates, who served as defense secretary under administrations of both former president George W. Bush and current president Obama, said that the Obama government follows stringent rules.
However, he expressed his concerns about future presidents.
In an interview with CNN’s State of the Union, he said, “I just think some check on the ability of a president to do this has merit as we look to the longer-term future.”
Last week, Senator Dianne Feinstein disclosed the plans to introduce a law to create such a court to review drone strikes.
