Owing Mills, MD, United States (4E Sports) – The Baltimore Ravens are optimistic a long-term deal will be reached with Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco.
He wants to be the league’s highest-paid quarterback, with a contract that ensures it stays that way for years to come.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees set the gold standard with a five-year, $100-million deal, including $60 million guaranteed. Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, said guaranteed money spread over the deal is more important than a front-loaded payout.
“What you’re looking for is years 4, 5 and 6. … You want to make sure this deal stands the test of time,” said Linta .”
Flacco is coming off a brilliant postseason during which he threw 11 touchdowns without an interception, matching San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana’s 1989 postseason performance and Arizona’s Kurt Warner in 2008.
He went 126 postseason passes without throwing an interception in leading wins against Indianapolis, Denver and New England. He has taken the Ravens to the playoffs each of his five seasons and his 63 wins, including 9-4 in postseason play, ranks as most in the league by a quarterback since 2008.
