Lady Tide Win Second Straight, Dump Sheffield 56-38

SHEFFIELD – For the first time since mid-December, the Curwensville Lady Tide girls basketball team won back-to-back games when they beat Sheffield Tuesday night, 56-38.

Curwensville utilized big first and fourth quarters offensively to get the win over the Lady Wolverines in the only meeting of the year between the two schools.

Jumping out to a 10 point half-time lead, 31-21, the Lady Tide slowly upped the margin throughout the second 16 minutes to garner the 18 point triumph.

Ciara Strickland had a game high 19 for the Lady Tide and was helped out by Katrina Seaburn with 15 and Tiffany Carter’s 10.

Seaburn also had 15 rebounds for another double-double on the year while Carter pulled down 10 boards for a double-double also.

Jen Isenber had 17 for the Lady Wolverines followed by Abby Labesky with 13.

Lady Tide head coach Rusty McCracken after the win, said , “The girls have played very hard the last two nights and have really stepped it up on the defensive end of the floor.  And I am very happy for this squad, because this win makes us eligible for the District playoffs for the first time in six years.”

Both teams went to the free throw line numerous times, as Curwensville was 14 of 21 and Sheffield 12 of 24.

Sheffield picked up the win in the junior varsity game, beating the Lady Tide, in a close one, 56-51.  Shauna Guy lead Curwensville with 19, while Abby Dugo scored 15 and Kayli Sedgwick 10 to fuel the Tide offense.
