Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Director Duncan Jones is set to create the film adaptation of Blizzaer Entertainment’s multiplayer online role-playing game ‘Warcraft’ by Legendary Pictures.
The game’s official Facebook account reads, “We are pleased to announce that Duncan Jones, director of critically-acclaimed films Source Code and Moon, has signed on with Legendary Pictures to direct the upcoming live-action film based on the Warcraft universe,” together with a link to a report.
Meanwhile, Jones confirmed his involvement through Twitter, re-tweeting announcements and posting, “So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game. Ive always said its possible. Got to DO it now! ;)”
The budget for the Warcraft film is said to be around $100 million. Jones’ first film, ‘Moon’ (2009) cost about $1 million to create and his second film, ‘Source Code,’ (2011) starring Jake Gyllenhaal, had a $35 million budget.
Produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, Blizzard and Atlas Entertainments’ Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, the film is slated for release in 2015, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The script is written by Charles Leavitt.
‘Warcraft’ is founded on fantasy and science fiction, which has werewolves, dragons, zombies and aliens for characters. It is believd to be the world’s most played multiplayer online role-playing game.
