San Diego, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Tiger Woods carded an even-par 72 in the final round but it was enough to carry the world No. 2 to a four-shot victory at the Farmers Insurance Open Monday at Torrey Pines.
The victory was Woods’ 75th on the PGA Tour and his eighth at Torrey Pines, where he earlier ruled the Buick Invitational in 1999, 2003, 2005-2008 and the 2008 US Open.
Woods was leading by eight shots through 13 holes when he hit a snag, carding a bogey in the 14th, a double-bogey in the 15th and another bogey in the 17th.
However, Woods closed out with a par on the 18th to beat defending champion Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater for the title and pocket the $1,080,000 top purse that went with it.
Woods, who is now seven wins away from the record held by Sam Snead, picked up 500 FedExCup points with the victory, which ties him for third place with Dustin Johnson. Brian Gay leads the FedExCup standings at 538 points.
Snedeker and Teater both fired a final-round three-under 69 to share second place and pocket $538,800 each.
Nick Watney and Jimmy Walker finished tied for fourth with four-round scores of 279, five strokes behind Woods.
