Maggie Lucas shines as Penn State downs Ohio State in women’s hoop

Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Junior guard Maggie Lucas tallied 15 of her team-high18 points in the second half to help No. 8 Penn State erased an 11-point deficit en route to a 71-56 victory over Ohio State Sunday at Value City Arena.
Senior guard Alex Bentley added 16 points while Nikki Greene posted her fourth double-double of the season and 13th of her career with 11 points and 13 caroms as the Lady Lions stormed to their 11th straight win.
Ariel Edwards also provided a spark with nine points in the second half with four rebounds, while junior guard Dara Taylor had five points and two steals.
The Lady Lions (17-2, 7-0 Big Ten) also captured a school-record 14th consecutive Big Ten regular-season win, surpassing the previous mark of 13 set over the 1992-93 and 1993-94 campaigns.
Penn State is now 7-0 in conference play for the first time since 2004-05 and is off to its best start since the 1993-94 squad went 22-2 to open the year.
Tayler Hill scored 28 points and Ameryst Alston added 12 for the led the Buckeyes, who dropped to 11-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Penn State stormed to a 7-0 lead behind Bentley’s four points and a three-point play by Greene. However, the Buckeyes responded with an 11-0 run to take an 11-7 lead with 15 minutes left.
Later in the half, Bentley’s basket gave the Lady Lions a 28-27 lead but the Buckeyes scored the final 10 points of the half to take a 37-28 lead at the break.
In the second half, Hill scored on a layup to put the Buckeyes ahead by 11 but the Lady Lions tied the count after an 11-0 blast started by Taylor.
