Suns eclipse Clippers for second straight win

Phoenix, AZ, United States (4E Sports) – The Phoenix Suns held on to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 93-88 Thursday night for a 2-0 record under interim coach Lindsey Hunter.

Goran Dragic had 24 points and eight assists, Marcin Gortat added 15 points, including two free throws with 23.3 seconds left, and Luis Scola and Markieff Morris scored 14 apiece for the Suns.

The Suns scored six in a row to go up 86-79 on Gortat’s layup with three minutes left. But the Clippers scored the next six points, with Jamal Crawford sinking a 3-pointer from the corner, to cut the lead to 86-85 with 26 seconds remaining.

After Gortat’s two free throws with 23 seconds left put Phoenix up 88-85, Crawford was fouled on a drive to the basket. But he missed one of two free throws and the Suns led 88-86.

Shannon Brown was fouled and made both free throws to make it 90-86 with 15.4 seconds left and the Suns retained possession.

With the victory, Phoenix pulled out of the cellar in the Western Conference at 15-28.

Crawford led Los Angeles with 21 points. Eric Bledsoe scored 15 and Blake Griffin added 12.

The Clippers, who lost their third straight, were without Chris Paul for the fifth time in seven games because of a bruised right kneecap. They slipped to 32-12, 1½ games behind West leaders Oklahoma City and San Antonio
