Valentine’s Day Dinner to Benefit Marian House
CLEARFIELD – There will be a Valentine Day’s Dinner Dance on Feb. 9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall located on Arnold Street in Clearfield.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres being served; dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be catered by Mountaintop Catering.
Dancing will be provided by the music of the 14th Street JAZZ Band. This dinner dance is being held to benefit the Marian House, the women and children’s shelter, celebrating 30 years of ministry in Clearfield.
In 1982, the Marian House opened its doors in Clearfield and became the primary emergency shelter for women and children in Clearfield County. In the beginning, this shelter was staffed entirely by volunteers.
Over the years, women, from all walks of life, have come to call the Marian House home for one day or many days. In many cases, their lives need to refocus on a new direction or a way of life.
The staff and volunteers work to empower each woman to make a positive decision for her future. RSVP volunteers, community volunteers and staff provide the necessary caring and support for these residents.
As we all know, keeping warm in the North is not free. Last winter, being a mild winter in Clearfield, still cost several thousands of dollars to keep the Marian House guests warm. A new roof was installed on the house, and a tree had to be removed from the yard last year. These are all costly expenses and as with any home, funds are always needed to keep a warm safe environment for these women and children in crisis.
Tickets are available for a $25 donation and can be purchased at Best Jewelers, Ethan’s Café, Grice Gun Shop, Zalno’s Jewelers in Clearfield or LaBue Printing and Way Office in DuBois or call the Bethany Retreat Center at 814-263-4855. The event will also include door prizes, wine tasting and a Chinese Auction.
