Berlin, Germany (4E) – Heavy snow and arctic weather conditions on Monday brought flights, railways and road travel to a halt across Europe.
More than a quarter of flights from Germany’s busiest Frankfurt airport has been cancelled, while several others have disrupted due to bad weather.
At London’s Heathrow airport, one in 10 flights faced cancellation. Travelers are stranded at several other airports across Germany, France and Britain.
On Monday, Frankfurt airport saw cancellations of 325 take-offs and landings, while some 161 flights were canceled in Munich.
French civil aviation authority cancelled 40% of total flights as a preventive measure against heavy snowfall on Sunday. Spanish aviation authorities were also forced to cancel 16 of their France and Germany-bound flights amid harsh weather conditions.
