Ryan Harrison stuns no.1 seed John Isner in Sydney
Sydney, Australia (4E Sports) – Ryan Harrison moved on to the next round of the 2013 Apia International Sydney after stunning no.1 seed John Isner 6-4, 6-4 Wednesday at the NSW Tennis Centre.
Harrison, who had to go through the qualifying stages, posted his fifth consecutive win and did so against his veteran compatriot. Isner was awarded with the no.1 seed after the withdrawal of top-rated Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet.
With the victory, Harrison arranged a quarterfinal round duel with another Frenchman Julien Benneteau, who advanced after no.6 seed Rodney Stepanek withdrew due to back pain.
On other matches, South African Kevin Anderson sustained his strong run for the start of the season after vanquishing Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-4. Andreas Seppi edged Australian 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 while Bernard Tomic bested no.5 seed Florian Meyer 7-6, 6-2.
On the distaff side, Li Na progressed to the next round after overcoming a spirited challenge from Madison Keys 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 while no.2 seed Angelique Kerber bested Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 7-5.
