Flowery Branch, GA, United States (4E Sports) – Former Falcons’ director of player personnel David Caldwell has joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as general manager.

He will replace Gene Smith and has to make a decision on head coach Mike Mularkey.

“Dave is a very bright, adept and organized talent evaluator,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said.

“He has a very sound understanding of team building and player acquisition.”

Caldwell was promoted as the Falcons director of player personnel in 2012. He oversaw both the college and pro scouting efforts and worked closely Dimitroff. He also handled the day-to-day analysis and evaluation of the Falcons current roster while aiding in the research on how to acquire future free agents.

He spent four previous seasons with the Falcons as the director of college scouting overseeing Atlanta’s college area and regional scouts.

Caldwell has served in the NFL for 15 years, 10 with the Indianapolis Colts, and the rest with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.
